Meet the Crew

Meet the crew sent by Eliza, the Queen of Britannia, on a mission to the Caribbean to take back her Isle of Gloriana, set amidst the tempestuous waters of Shipwreck Cove, and give battle to the marauding pirates preying on her merchant ships.
Captain Duncan O’Dare:

Quite the ladies man about Court in his satins, velvets and silk hose. O’Dare, from the Northern Kingdom of Scotia, whiles his time away dancing, playing cards and reciting poetry for the Queen. As the Queen’s favourite young Lord his place at court was most often near the throne.

Purrceval Whiskers:

Like all cats, Whiskers has nine lives. After his first five harrowing lives, it seems that Whiskers has chosen a sixth life of ease as lap-warmer to the Queen. In the evenings, in the Queen’s chamber Whiskers lays stretched across the foot of the Queen’s bed spinning tails about his greatest warrior ancestor, Bartholomeow, who, when present at The Battle of Bosworth Field responded to his King’s cry, “A cat, a cat, my Kingdom for a cat” and alas, fell with him on the field of honor.

Ricardo:

If the way to man’s heart is through his stomach so it was with the Queen’s. Captured during the raid of the Spanish Armada, Ricardo’s life is spared when the Queen learns that he was the ex-cook of King Philip. Being tired of her dull fare and weary of beheadings she sent him to the kitchens to prepare his most savory dishes.

Cheddar:

Cheddar, from a large family of church mice, has lived for the most part in the warm pocket of Reverend Edmund Blythe. Cheddar gave up that cozy home and took up residence in the Court kitchen and each evening rides up on the Queen’s supper tray to say his lay-me-downs while lazing on her pillow.

Zeus:

This great Prince of the Ivory Coast, named for the Greek God of Thunder and Lightning, arrived at the Court of the Queen in a marvelous cloak of the finest feathers and quickly became one the Queen’s closest companions. She bestowed upon him a cape of fine fur to warm him in the cooler clime of Britannia.

Smoke:

Smoke arrived at the Court on the return voyage of one of the Queen’s privateers from the West Indies. Smoke was a former Member of the Capuchin Brotherhood of Fisherman and a native of Gloriana. The Queen chose Smoke as her Court Fool where he scampered about performing all manner of monkey antics.

Much gossip, whisperings, and rising of the brows attended the Queen’s announcement that these were the cavaliers to be sent to carry out this daring mission.” Was it possible that the Queen has lost all reason?” asked some. “Tis a merry madcap crew not best suited to attempt such a feat of daring-do” said others. “Tsk, Tsk, that crew would be better employed as entertainers of those dreadful pirates rather than vanquishers of them”, muttered one of the grey beards of the Queen’s Council. A spoiled band of un-whipped pups, light-hearted and light-minded neer-do-nothings was the general opinion.

Were the naysayers correct? Surely that wise crafty Young Queen knew what she was about. Are there hidden depths to the character of these gad-abouts? Is there a story to unfold that will amaze all who hear? Now, there’s the Mystery and who shall say if or when the curtain will be lifted from this tangled web?
